Paxman is going to be 23 months old tomorrow!! I can't believe in just a month he will be 2 already! My baby is very quickly becoming less and less of a baby and I'm not liking it at all!
Pax has been suffering from chronic ear infections throughout the winter and went to the ENT the other day. We found out that he needs to have tubes put in to help him drain the fluid in his ears. Apparently he doesn't have the ability to do it himself. These tubes will stay in for 6 months to 1.5 yrs depending on the growth of the ear. He had a hearing test while we were at the drs. and he didn't pass. He can't hear certain sounds when he needs to use both ears, but some of those sounds are notiecable to him when he only uses one ear. It is similar to hearing underwater, which explains why he hums a lot of his words. We won't know if the hearing loss is permanent until after the tubes clear up the fluid.
It was heartbreaking to sit with him and hear the sounds myself but know he isn't hearing them. I wanted so desperately to help him and just felt helpless sitting there while he didn't even have an inkling of a response to a few of the sounds.
He goes on August 8th for his surgery. We are anxious for him to be able to hear the way all the rest of us do and to be healthy again. (and Mommy is ready for some sleep at night!!) :)
